Alex and I got married in June 2021 after 3.5 years together. We opted to celebrate our new marriage with an intimate wedding ceremony at Trillium Lake (near Mt. Hood, Oregon) followed by a reception at Silvan Ridge Winery in Eugene.
We only invited guests that we really wanted there and we were so happy with the size and energy of our group. around 30-40 people. When we first started thinking about our wedding day, we defaulted to the traditions: a large gathering with a chapel ceremony and a glitzy venue reception to follow. Once we really started thinking about what we wanted, we moved our wedding from October 2022 to June 2021 because we just couldn’t wait to be married. We planned a simple ceremony with Mt. Hood as our chapel and celebrated in the town we met, with wood-fire pizza and local wine. Some of my favorite things about our wedding (besides the pizza and cake) were the stress-free vibes, the wedding toasts, getting to sing to my new husband, sharing choreographed first dances, and lots of dancing.
First, we stay the night before our wedding at a cute, mid-century modern style Airbnb in the town of Rhododendron, Oregon outside of Mt. Hood. We played games and went hot-tubbing with our closest friends and drank wine by the fire.
The next moring, we all spent the early hours of the day getting ready together. My friend Molly made us all breakfast while Cassidy did my makeup. Alex and I snuggled on the couch between primping ourselves for the day.
We wanted to spend as much time as possible together while getting ready, and wanted to drive to Trillium Lake for our ceremony together. So we decided to get ready ALMOST all the way: excpect I saved my dress and veil for the ceremony.
What did that mean for me? Putting on my wedding dress in the middle of the woods with the help of my mom and sister! (PS: I got my dress from Blush Bridal in Eugene, Oregon: https://blushbridaloregon.com)
As you may notice… I wore platform beige and gold TEVAS sandals for my wedding day. I’m a person and bride that values comfort over pretty much anything else!
Another of my favorite things from the day was walking down the aisle. The aisle being the curving trail pathway of pine needles and dust, with shadows of forest trees casting down all around me! With my arm looped through my dad’s, I still remember the joy and excitement bubbling through me like butterflies as I walked slowly to the tune of “Turning Page.”
Then, of course, we had our small, private ceremony at the amphitheater near Trillium Lake Campground. My friend Molly was our officiant as we poured our hearts how to one another with private vows that felt like love letters.
After wandering around the mountain lake, Mt. Hood shining in the midday sun, we snapped family and couple’s photos and jumped into the car to drive allllll the way back to Eugene, Oregon for our reception.
We chose Silvan Ridge because of it’s gorgeous Tusacy, Italy VIBES, local ownership, and yummy wine! We loved supporting a small, local winery and loved the idea that we could come back and visit our wedding reception venue anytime to grab a glass of wine and remember our first day of marriage.
We had Woodfire Oven pizza and Cupcakes and cake from Sweet Life Bakery!
Once we ate, drank, and cried our eyes out at the beautiful toasts our family gave us, it was time to hit the dance floor. Since it was a beautiful June day and we only had about 30-40 guests, we opted to dance outside on the stone patio under the setting sun.
We played the “shoe game” because I LOVE IT, had our first dances, and I even sang a special song to my new husband on acoustic guitar.
And that’s it! We went home in a Limo, drunk tired and happy.
